Take & Give

by Carolina Brown

Sidestepping forlorn souls who
Scattered about the streets in SF
Search the sidewalks for clues:
Arranging the shards of a vessel
Connecting disparate memories
Mosaics of lost opportunities
Mistakes and lots of near misses—
Through the tiny cracks beneath
Down, past the porous safety net
Tearing the tender social fabric
Exposing flesh to rain and wind.
So, take sail—float, row, rest
Stretch out supplicant hands:
Find peace—from ash to dust.
